Earthquakes - Sources,Effects and Remedies
Definition:- A sudden or
violent shaking of earth’s crust which is caused by the severely disruptive
stress within rocks along causing the seismic waves that are destructive is known as Earthquake.
This
will happen for the movement of magma in volcanic parts and accompany
earthquakes.
Types of Earthquakes:- Earthquakes produce three types
Seismic waves:- Seismic waves is bond of energy that
generates through every part of the earth layers along with it’surface. Finally
leading to the explosion that produce out the low frequency energy.
There
are two types of seismic waves:
a)Body wave
b)Surface wave
In
the body wave there are two types:
1)Primary wave
2)Secondary wave
1)
Primary wave (P):- Primary waves are compressional
waves that will shakes the ground back in which they cause rock particles move
in same direction and opposite direction in which the direction of wave travelled.
2)
Secondary wave(S):- Secondary waves can also be named as Shear waves. In this the wave will travel in a solid motion. In which the solid
medium moves at right angles in the direction of seismic wave travelled. They
are second fastest travelling seismic waves next to the primary waves.
Surface waves:- A seismic wave that generate across
the surface of earth rather than opposed to travel through it is known as Surface waves.
Causes:-
Casually
related to rock underneath breaking that is due to the compression or tension
stress build up at the edges of rock and make the ground shake. In general huge
rocks rubbing against each other usually caused by faulting that is lateral or
vertical rubbing of huge rocks along a break surface.
Effects:-
2)And also Earthquake leads to the damage of building’s,bridges, dams etc..
3)It may also lead to the disaster like tsunami because it occurs beneath the surface of sea or ocean.
4)Earthquake may also lead to floods and often cause more destruction.
Protection or Remedies Against Earthquakes:-
An
earthquake occurs without any warning. If the earthquake strikes at mostly
densely populated loss of lives and damage to the property will be high.So it is very important that it should be considered as the most endangering potential hazards
and should pretend for necessary precautions to be safe and from causing damage to the
lives and property.
1)There should be some supplies like flashlights, alert signals, first aid
boxes,easy transportation etc.
2) Safe places should be clearly identified to give first
aid to the effected people.
3) A communication plan should be set up in case of
emergency.
4) It is compulsory to have fire lighting equipment in
case of building catches fire.
